An Evening with Aubrey Plaza ūüíú

This week we hosted movie night at our place and the title of choice was the long-awaited (by us),¬†An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn.¬†We had James and Gary over because the three of us went to a Q&A session with the film’s director¬†Jim Hosking back when he released his first feature, The Greasy Strangler¬†so it’s fast becoming a tradition of ours.

The film itself was wonderful and weird but my main takeaway is how bloody fit Aubrey Plaza is. So this is my tribute post to the woman herself (and of course the sublime style of her BLL character, Lulu Danger).

My favourite AP moments to date:

Child’s Play (2019)

The CP franchise is one of my all-time favourite things and the original Chucky is my homeboy – so I’m in two minds about next year’s reboot. HOWEVER, it does feature Miss Plaza and also¬†Brian Tyree Henry¬†so I am going to remain open-minded.¬†

I haven’t seen too much by way of teaser images from the movie yet but what I have seen snatched from behind-the-scenes looks positive. AP plays a young mother who gives her son a cute doll for is birthday and absolutely nothing whatsoever goes wrong. Ever.

Ingrid Goes West (2017)

IGW is one of the bleakest movies I’ve seen in recent times wrapped in the perfect Instagram filter. AP is the titular Ingrid, a troubled woman with a tendency to stalk her prey relentlessly. When she stumbles across Insta famous Taylor Sloane (Elizabeth Olsen), she is no exception. Ingrid moves to Cali to befriend her and will stop at nothing to get the girl. With consequences.¬†

Well, this might so far be Plaza’s best role as she unravels before our very eyes, a grieving messed up protagonist who makes you assess your own social behaviours and never really learns her lesson. I actually feel like watching this again today (and I probably will) but it is very far from a feel-good movie and not the Christmas classic I had envisioned for my afternoon of present wrapping.¬†

*Shrug*

Legion (2017-2019)

Don’t expect me to explain any of this show to anyone at any point because I don’t think I really understood it but Lenny Busker (Plaza) is my stand-out.

BFF of lead character David Haller (Dan Stevens), A LOT of shit goes down for her and I haven’t seen Season 2 yet so there’s a heap I still don’t know. All I know is that when AP is onscreen, I don’t really care about anyone else – and that’s a super power in itself.¬†

An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn (2018)

Lulu Danger is dead pan AF but underneath her stony exterior lies a woman on a mission. A mission to get back to her former lover, the mysterious Beverly Luff Linn (Craig Robinson). Teaming up with love-sick Colin (Jemaine Clement), Lulu runs away from her horrible husband Shane (Emile Hirsch) to track down and confront BLL, a man presumed dead years before.

Lulu isn’t particularly pleasant to anybody but she rocks the dopest outfits and has a heart underneath it all. Will she end up with her former beau Beverly, return to her douche bag husband or start a new life with a new prospect? All that matters is Plaza tbh but the film is hilarious, treading a very fine line between oddball and hysterical.¬†

Cue the slideshow, bitches.

Couchella 2016

Yesterday, on my day off, I nearly bought a pair of Coachella endorsed sunglasses in H&M, simply because they had tiny little cats ears on them (I might go back, don’t judge).

I quickly came to my senses (again, might lose them again, my prerogative) when I realised they were pretty pricey for what they are and it was just the ‘name’ seducing me.

Coachella.¬†Everyone knows that this is where the pretty people go to be seen, to wear fringing and sit on grass with big cups. There’s also a big ferris wheel and some music (I think).

The closest I have ever been to Coachella myself is those sunglasses and I can’t imagine this will be changing any time soon. I’ve actually never been to a festival and I can’t work out if this is because I just haven’t lived or because it really isn’t my scene at all. Hard floors and too much sunlight? Ugh.

But if a festival ever looked like it might be my scene I think it would be Coachella, not least because I’d be too busy staring at all the bohemian beauty around me. I should imagine most festivals are people-watching Heaven and that might be enough to get me over my prejudice and actually go to one (a small one).

As I say a lot, this isn’t a fashion blog, I leave that to the experts but it doesn’t mean I don’t love it and the best outfits of Coachella season are always a highlight of the fashion calendar for me – alongside The Academy Awards, The Met Ball and London Fashion Week (ooh get me).

So here are my favourites from 2016 so far:

Those jewel colours, though! (Both those dresses are EVERYTHING) – and Kendall rocking simple yet classic crochet

PicMonkey Collage2
I love each of these outfits for their simplicity, like these girls look like they just threw something on with no thought whatsoever *sigh*.

I also love the short hair on Lady number 3, it makes me want to have a very drastic cut (which I’m considering for the Summer).

PicMonkey Collage3
Flipping beautiful floral prints – especially when they’re rocked with sneakers ‚̧

I don’t know who any of these lovelies are, apart from the divine Miss Jenner, so they’ll have to forgive the lack of name checking. I have to say it’s the street style that stands out for me this year, rather than the celebrity spotting and that’s a great thing.

I want all these items in my size please! I’d also like to be outside in a park (in the shade) enjoying a light breeze right about now.

And thus concludes my thoughts on Coachella from my couch.

What do you think? ‚̧

What I‚Äôm Digging: My ASOS Wish List #2

It could be said that I have a real issue with shopping. I shop when I’m sad, I shop when I’m celebrating, bored, frustrated, uninspired. Yes, I know this is not a good thing.

I’m making the effort to change my habits though, because there are other things I need to be doing with my money, such as paying for night classes (gonna be a coder, innit).¬†Sometimes, it’s okay though to break your new rule with a¬†pay-day treat, or¬†a little something you just know it going to make you look like a fucking rock star.

Here are the things I have my eye on this August:

Sweet Treats

I look *almost* as perfect as this model

I feel I also have to share with the group¬†that I’ve finally found¬†the Jumpsuit of Destiny.

I’ve waited months for it to come back into stock in my size and now I’ve got it in my possession and it’s incredible! It fits¬†like a glove, cinches in where I want it to, flows where I need it to.¬†I’m in jumpsuit heaven, I tell you!

So, what are you into this Summer?

Go Baby Go Go

Not actual DMs, or legs for that matter
Not actual DMs, or legs for that matter

I have five minutes and I want to post today, so I thought I’d freestyle a love letter to my favourite thing in recent times. My Cherry Red Doctor Martens.

Dear Heaven in the Form of Footwear,

Yes, I made the mistake of going out in you the other night in just one pair of socks, foolishly believing you to be ‘broken in’. I’m¬†still paying the price. The thing with you is¬†you’ve been worth every single blister; even single irritated Achille’s heel.

You’ve been in my life for about two months and I already forget what life was like before you. I have dry feet all the time (except in the shower, where alas we cannot go together). My feet are warm and comfy, if I remember, always to wear two pairs of socks, the thicker the better.

In you, I have found the power to stomp like I believe I was born to do. Up, down, up, down and all the way back again. I feel like there is nothing I can’t do, no terrain that would defeat us.

In you, I feel like part of an exclusive club, coaxing discreet nods of approval from other DM wearers. I have a ‘DM Twin’ at work who looks like Bette Davis, if Bette Davis had a bleach blonde crop. Our bond is stronger, I swear, because we share a love of the same footwear.

You go with everything, from jeans to tea dresses. Especially¬†tea dresses. You’re a miracle, a dream and I will never go back.

I love you.

Love, me xoxo

Are you a DM lover? I’d love to hear your ode to Doctor Marten.
